Some places never leave you. For me, that place is Bell-lloc. As a child, I spent my summers wandering its trails, picking herbs, pressing olives between my palms, and playing “three in a row” with our shepherd—he had the double droppings, I had the single ones. Those days weren’t extraordinary at the time. But looking back, they were everything: simple, quiet, and alive with meaning.
When my father took over in 1998, he brought a vision that transformed the land. He began planting vines and olive trees, not for volume but for quality, rooted in the character of this place. Inspired by him, I’ve continued this journey—not to scale it, but to deepen it.
Our wines are perhaps the most intimate expression of that philosophy. Made primarily from monovarietal, autochthonous grapes, each wine tells the story of the year that shaped it. No two vintages are the same, because nature is never the same. We make only small productions—never more than 2,000 bottles per wine—because that’s what the land allows. Anything more would dilute the magic. Even the label tells a story—or rather, resists one. My father always believed that a good wine shouldn’t need a label to convince you of its quality.
This belief in quiet craftsmanship runs through everything we do. Cellar Brugarol, designed by RCR as well, is entirely buried in the hillside, built with local clay, natural stone, and salvaged corten from a sunken ship. The winery is a sculpture as much as it is a cellar—cool, silent, and powered only by passive systems, echoing our reverence for nature and sustainability.
As much as we are vintners, we are also olive oil makers. The Argudell variety—native to the Empordà—is our heritage. But when my grandfather planted new trees, he included southern Spanish varieties like Arbequina and Picual for their resilience and rich oil. Still, in 2019, something shifted. A member of our team voiced a deep love for olives—their care, their harvest, their transformation into oil. That passion sparked a new chapter: planting more Argudell trees and letting them grow naturally, slowly.
Today, we have nearly 2,000 olive trees across our properties. Like our wines, each oil is kept distinct, allowing guests to experience the full flavor and texture of every variety. The result is something smooth, layered, and profoundly personal. Every bottle carries not only the essence of the olive, but the story of the hands that nurtured it.
Our sheep farm at Mas Salvà completes the circle. It’s a place of open skies and quiet mornings, where our flock grazes freely on native grasses and wild herbs. This diet gives our cheeses, milk, ice creams, and dulce de leche a complexity you can taste. It’s not just the flavor—it’s the feeling. Everything is made slowly, with respect for tradition and rhythm.
Mas Bell-lloc, whose name means beautiful space, holds even older stories. Once home to the priest of Palamós, it still cradles the chapel of Santa Maria de Bell-lloc and the Castell de Vilaromà. The bathroom of our Carinyenya and Monastrell rooms was once the changing room for the choir. These walls hold laughter, ritual, and memory.
Long ago, before my family arrived, the estate was known for hosting Romerias, celebrations in late September to honor the end of summer. Today, it’s still a place of gathering—not just for us, but for anyone seeking peace, beauty, and connection. It’s close to the town and the beach, yet feels miles away—tucked into the hills, surrounded by forest and light.
In 2015, I launched Brugarol’s hospitality offering, not to create a business, but to create a sustainable circle. One where caring for the land made it possible to share it. And in 2022, together with Stef, we brought this vision further inland to the Muga Valley Watershed, where we work toward regenerating ecosystems with local partners and our foundation, The Pioneers of Our Time.
For me, Brugarol isn’t just a place—it’s a pulse. A connection between people, land, and purpose. When you stay with us, drink our wine, walk with the shepherd, or taste a spoonful of warm dulce de leche, you become part of this story—a story that spans generations and grows with every thoughtful step. We welcome you as our guest. And if we’ve done things right, you’ll leave as our friend.
“We have been privileged to steward a collection of properties that have been passed down from generation to generation. We wish that by experiencing the magic of time and space here, you leave with a beautiful memory — one that stays with you and perhaps even inspires a deeper engagement with nature and local artisans. Feeling that we are all part of a greater whole, each adding our own meaningful contribution to the planet. We hope you truly enjoy your time with us, and that Brugarol becomes your home and a place of inspiration.”
